Duarte, CEO of AIE as conducted by Mr. Duarte as an engineer at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center thru its transition from undersea mine detection to mammography image enhancement and introduction to the healthcare marketplace by AIE.

FDA clears AIE's image enhancement technology

AIE today announced the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared the Company's premarket notification (510k) for its image enhancement software. Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women, besides skin cancer. Mammography is the best available method for early detection, although abnormalities can still be hard to detect in dense breasts. AIE CEO Michael Duarte stated "Our software enhances digital mammography images, making abnormalities easier to locate, even in dense breasts."

Advanced Image Enhancement (AIE), a provider of image-processing tools for medical imaging, has adapted a technology originally created for detecting undersea mines into one that can be used for breast cancer image enhancement. Yesterday radiologists at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Mass., released findings from a breast cancer research study designed to evaluate the use of AIE's software for examining suspicious Regions Of Interest (ROI) in conjunction with Hologic’s Lorad Selenia digital mammography system.

Matching Grant Award to Advanced Image Enhancement

The Aid for Cancer Research provided a matching grant award to Advanced Image Enhancement in 2005 to support AIE’s clinical study hosted at Newton Wellesley Hospital. The study focused on evaluating the clinical benefits of AIE’s image enhancement software when used with digital mammography.

Naval Undersea Warfare Center Employees Win National Technology Transfer Award

The efforts of a NUWC engineer and patent attorney to transfer Navy technology to the commercial sector have been identified by the government’s Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) for Technology Transfer as deserving of the 2002 FLC Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer.

Slater Center for Interactive Technologies teams with NUWC to apply military imaging technology to mammography for early detection of breast cancer

(Providence, RI) With seed funding and business development support from the Slater Center for Interactive Technologies, a computer engineer at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) is developing the next generation of digital mammography software – using sonar techniques originally developed by the military to detect underwater mines. The collaboration marks the first time that NUWC technology has been commercialized in Rhode Island.
